Goal

How do I clear an incorrectly set NIS domain name from the NIS service? We want the property to be empty.

Solution

There is no method to set this to an empty string from the CLI/BUI.

Please engage Oracle Support by opening a Service Request and be prepared to provide remote access to the appliance.

The procedures differ slightly between OS7 (aka 2011.1.x) and OS8 (aka 2013.1.x)

2013.1.x:
svccfg -s nis/domain delpropvalue config/domainname customer.NIS.domain
svcadm refresh nis/domain

2011.1.x
svccfg -s identity:domain delpropvalue com.sun.ak,defaultdomain/defaultdomain customer.NIS.domain
svcadm refresh identity:domain
