Applies to:

Oracle Key Manager - Version 3.0 to 3.0.2 [Release 3.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Starting with with the OKM 3.1 release, GUI installations no longer include an OpenSSL distribution. This means that you must download and install a recent OpenSSL distribution (such as OpenSSL 1.0.1s) before you can invoke the Oracle Key Manager GUI or CLIs.

The GUI installer displays a new panel noting this new requirement.

Here is an example of this new panel on Solaris:

solaris

Here is an example of this new panel on Windows:

windows

Solution

If you try to invoke the Oracle Key Manager GUI or CLIs and an OpenSSL distribution has not been installed on your system, the GUI and CLIs display an error message indicating that they cannot find OpenSSL library files. These OpenSSL library files must be 32-bit (not 64-bit) files. Refer to the README file (on Solaris) or README.txt file (on Windows) in the GUI installation directory for more information.

Here is an example of an error message on Solaris:

ld.so.1: KMS_Manager-solaris_i386: fatal: libssl.so.1.0.0: open failed:
No such file or directory

Here is an example of an error message on Windows:

The program can't start because libeay32.dll is missing from your computer

If you see a similar error message, download and install an OpenSSL distribution on your system. Then invoke the GUI or CLIs again.

Example OpenSSL Installation Instructions:

From the OpenSSL binaries page:

https://www.openssl.org/community/binaries.html

Click the "wiki" link, which goes here:

https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/Binaries

This wiki page has a table of third-party OpenSSL binary distributions. Download the openssl-1.0.1t-i386-win32.zip (a 32-bit distribution) from the fulgan site:

https://indy.fulgan.com/SSL/

Each third-party supplier has their own installation instructions. The fulgan distributions were straight forward to use. After downloading this zip file to a working directory, Simply extract it and copy the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll files to the OKM GUI installation directory.
