Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Knowledge of the SL8500 Library

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 Minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: HBN card is determined to be defective and requires replacement.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:  Host operations must be halted before removing the HBN card. Request the operator to place the library offline to the Host/ACSLS.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Refer to the SL8500 Service Manual for pictures and figures when taking the following actions.

Removal of the HBN (Interlock Controller) Card:

1. Open the library rear doors.

2. Set PDU circuit breaker(s) to OFF (down).

3. Remove the center façade (see “Center Section: Two-Piece Façade Removal” on page 47 for a two piece, or “Center Section: Single Piece Façade Removal” on page 50 for a one piece) to access the HBN card (1) shown in FIGURE 1-138 on page 141.

Note –
There are nine jacks on the HBN card: J500 through J508. J505 is connected only when the library contains the optional safety door.

4. Disconnect all cables, one at a time:
a. Inspect each cable for a label that matches the card jack.
b. Label any cables that are not already clearly labeled.

5. Remove six T10 screws (1) shown in FIGURE 1-139 securing the card.

6. Remove the card.

Replacement of the HBN (Interlock Controller) Card:

1. Position the replacement HBN Card into the mounting location.

2. Thread—but do not fully tighten—six T10 screws.

Note – Do not tighten screws until all six are threaded. Otherwise, one or more screws may not start.

3. Tighten all six T10 screws to secure the card.

4. Connect all cables to appropriate receptacles (J500 through J508).

Note –
All connectors are either different or keyed differently.  J505 is connected only when the library contains the optional safety door.

5. Set PDU circuit breaker(s) to ON (up) and allow library to initialize.

6. Perform “HBN Card (Interlock Controller) Verification” on page 283.

7. Re-install the center façade (see “Center Section: Two Piece Façade Replacement” on page 49 for a two piece, or “Center Section: Single Piece Façade Replacement” on page 52 for a one piece).
