Goal

How to Enable the Hardware Acceleration Flag in Exalytics Machines?

Solution

To enable Hardware Acceleration flag in Exalytics, edit the single entry in

<Domain_Home>/config/fmwconfig/biconfig/core/bi-config.xml

Change the parameter from:

<bi:hw-acceleration>false</bi:hw-acceleration>

To:

<bi:hw-acceleration>true</bi:hw-acceleration>

For installations of OBIEE 11G, setting the mbean property, effectively sets the hardware acceleration flag in the centralized config file (biee-domain.xml), which in turn propagates to all components (OBIS, OBIPS, essbase) the hardware flag in their respective config files.

  • ORACLEHARDWAREACCELERATION flag is set in NQSConfig.INI of BI Server
  • OracleHardwareAcceleration flag in OBIPS config (instanceconfig.xml)
  • The centralized config file - biee-domain.xml's hardwareAcceleration flag
  • HardwareAcceleration in essbase.cfg

During Installation if the user missed to select this option during Installation the entry needs to be done manually.

If the user selects the checkbox, the installer calls the MBean "oracle.biee.admin:type=BIDomain,group=Service" and sets the property "HardwareAcceleration" to "1" (True)

One can also verify the above configuration files to make sure it is set to "true" only then the true power of Exalytics Server can be realized.

For installations above 12c, it might be required that this parameter may be turned to "true" manually and the above mentioned steps needs to be done.
