Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Provide an explanation to the fact that PCIE cards in slots 5, 6, 7 might not be recognized in a X4600M2.

Solution

X4600M2 can be purchased in different cpus configuration : 2, 4, 6 or 8 cpus.

In a 2-cpus configuration, only the cpu-slots A and B are filled.

So the cpu-slot H is not filled in such configuration.
However this slot H provides the path to the NVIDIA chip controlling the PCI slots 5, 6, 7.

Therefore, in a 2-cpus configuration X4600M2, PCIE slots 5, 6, 7 are NOT available by design.

You won't see them at any level.

Workaround :

- if some empty slots are available, you can move the card to slots 2, 3 or 4.

NB : slots 4 and 7 are "4 lanes" PCIE slots when the others are "8 lanes" ones.

If your X4600M2 is not a 2-cpus configuration, then another explanation should be found.
