Goal

How to move tapes from the mailslot to the library automatically (NBU 7.x).

Solution

Customer did not know how to move tapes from the mailslot to the library and did not want to do this manually via the GUI.

One way this can be achieved in NBU is to use the 'vmupdate' command with the -empty_map switch which tells NBU to empty the MAP (the media Access Port or mailslot) into the library before doing an audit. Details can be found in the following link.... https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000093233. The SL150 is a TLD / ACS type library according to the Veritas Hardware Compatibility list. Other methods will also be possible (please refer to Veritas).

e.g.

vmupdate -rt robot_type -rn robot_number [-rh robot_host] [-h EMM_Server | volume_database_host] [[-if inventory_filter_value] [-if inventory_filter_value] ...] [-full] [-recommend] [-interactive] [-involgrp volume_group] [-outvolgrp volume_group] [-mt media_type] [-p pool_name] [-use_barcode_rules] [-use_seed] [-mp media_id_prefix] [-empty_map]

On UNIX systems, the directory path to this command is /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/

On Windows systems, the directory path to this command is <install_path>\Volmgr\bin\

Refer to Veritas Support if you require a full understanding of the best way Netbackup can assist you.

Other host applications will have their own methods of moving tapes from the mailslot. Please refer to the relevant vendor documentation.
