Goal

While WebEx is Oracle's preferred utility for remote collaboration, this document explains how to initiate and connect to a shared shell session for Flash Storage System for those instances where WebEx is not a viable option.

Solution

Oracle Shared Shell is a collaborative service tool that allows you to retain participant access and control while Oracle Support Services Engineers remotely view and diagnose Sun systems. This Java-based application provides secure, remote access to a terminal session that is shared simultaneously by customers and support services engineers. The end user controls who participates and who has access to the remote session.

Please note that shared shell only gives access to Flash Storage System from a local laptop/computer, pointing to the Pilot Shared IP address.

Initiate and connect to a shared shell session:

  1. Enable ssh on the FS1 Pilot.  Reference <Document 2029847.1> FS System: How to Enable SSH Access to the Pilot.
  2. Go to Oracle Shared Shell Web Page (www.oracle.com/123)
  3. Press the "Launch Oracle Shared Shell" link at the bottom of the page. A java-based window will appear.
  4. On the left side of the screen, enter your Single Sign On (SSO) credentials (those are the same used to access the My Oracle Support portal).
  5. Select option 1: "Initiate a session & connect to target system".
  6. Use ssh as protocol and enter the Pilot "root" as User Name, and Host Name or IP address you will connect to.
  7. Press start button.
  8. Enter the Pilot password.  Reference <Document 2046703.1> FS System: Passwords Associated with the Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System.
  9. Once you enter Pilot Shell, can go to: conference -> Invite. This generates a 6-digit invitation key that can be provided to Oracle Support.
  10. Using the key, Oracle Support will connect to the session. When the User Name appears in the waiting to join box, click the allow button.
  11. In order to grant full access to other people, go to the box on the low right part of the screen, right-click on the person you want to grant full access and press the "set full access" option, or grant full access to the person when they request it.

Note: Shared Shell cannot establish an ssh connection to an OSX 10.11 (El Capitan)
