Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

When system is upgraded from 4GB to 8GB of memory, errors might occur in Diags.

An example of such an error would show in diagnostics:

018: I2C Processor Module Memory Size Test
  [DiagReportError Start]
  WED MAY 20 07:38:55 2015

  ERROR
  Routine Name: DiagSd3ComE_VerifyDdrSizeTest()
  Expected Comm Express module DDR3 Memory Size to be 4 GB.
  Actual Installed Memory is 8 GB in 2 Modules.

  Note: SD3 Mainboard IDPROM Options field specifies the
  expected DDR3 memory size (0=4GB, 1=8GB).
  Currently, the Options field is set to 0.

In this scenario, it will be necessary to update the ID PROM to indicate that 8G of memory is installed.

This procedure is described below.

Solution

The memory failure can be fixed by updating the Id PROM to indicate that 8G of memory is installed. In Diagnostics mode, use the "cpu2IdUpdate" command to update the "Options" field of the Id PROM to 1 which indicates 8G of memory.

To access Diagnostic mode, please refer to:

How to Execute Diagnostics on an NN4500 or NN3800 (Doc ID 1589482.1)

Here is an example of the "Options" field of the Id PROM equal to 0:

[diag_proc] -> id r mbd

Contents of Mainboard Id PROM

And the test fails because 8G of memory is installed:

[diag_i2cmbd] -> t 18

[diag_i2cmbd] ->

The cpu2IdUpdate command updates the mainboard Id PROM Options field to 1 which indicates that 8G of memory is installed on the CPU2 Module.

Note: In the case the CPU2 Module has 4G of memory installed, and this is the expected configuration for CPU2 Module, then the Options field should be 0. To set Options field to 0, issue the cpuIdUpdate command with -u option which will undo the 8G option setting.

Example:

[diag_proc] -> cpu2IdUpdate -u.

After the command has updated the mainboard Id PROM, it will display the Id PROM contents and the Options field will be 0.
