 Common SL8500 Build Issues

Solution

After power-on:

1. Service Required light on, incomplete init of H-Bots – Check cables J406 and J407 anywhere along right base of machine for swapped connectors. There are from 2 to 6 pair of these connectors (depending on number of Expansion Modules) beginning at the DEM-to-RIM interconnect (J404/J405) up to the CIM elevator tower.

2. AC2 Rail power supplies in top slots 23-24 have green lights blinking, not fully enabled – Check short HBF1 to HBF2 interconnect cable J320 to J610.

3. One or more rails not powered – Check Rail Power/Signal cables below each rail that connect RIM to DEM.

4. SLConsole cannot find HBC server when logging in. – OP Panel Ethernet cable is installed in wrong port on the SLConsole.

5. One or more drives slots (usually outside slots -2 and +2) show “Not Communicating” when tested with a drive – Open the card cage and check the wide flat ribbon cables connected to the HBY paddle card. Reach into the card cage and firmly press down on all connections, there is no need to remove and reinsert them.

6. Any H-Bot begins init and stops entering or exiting the corner unexpectedly. – Check he power strip splice for proper installation.

7. Any H-Bot stops repeatedly at the same location during init – Check for the complete removal of the blue/green protective plastic from the power strips.

8. All rails not powered. Check that the yellow lights blink when the doors are closed. If not, suspect 1 or more door interlock switches are unplugged or not installed. Use LEDs on the HBN card to diagnose.

9. In a 2N power configuration, the SL8500 becomes non-operational when testing the ability to run on only 1 customer feed. Check for proper installation of the power connectors from the PUE Ethernet switch. The 2 power feeds to the switch must come from the 2 outer connectors on the face of the switch bay. Do not use the center connection. (Note: It is normal for the SL Console to power off during this testing. It is fed from only 1 PDU.)

10. If WYE supplies are used in a Delta environment. All drive DCPS will be yellow in SLC. Input voltage is low at the DCPSs.

11. Either the odd or even rail PTPs will not init. This can be caused by poorly seated J406/J407 cables (cocked). The “EPO PTP” signals are on the outer pins of these connections. Be sure to check both the Home and Away libraries.
