Goal

To move tapes from the library via SL-Console.

Solution

The following describes how to move tapes with your library via SL-Console

Move cartridge from cell via SLC (SL-Console) using RecvrMove to the CAP and re-enter the cartridge(s).

- Start SL-Console.

Please see the following document on how to download SLC if you do not have this.

SL500/SL3000/SL8500 - How to Download the SLConsole (SLC) (Doc ID 1511569.1)

- Select Diagnostics Menu.

- In Diagnostics window select RecvrMove tab.

- Select “Location” radio button under Mode.

On the left side of the RecvrMove tab select your source location “Storage Slot” from the pull-down and enter the appropriate location(s) where the cartridge resides.

(The location can be found in the Cartridge Table report. Tools > Reports > Status Summary > Cartridge Table)

On the Right side of the RecvrMove tab select as destination location “CAP” and the accordingly positions.

- Click on the Start button (on the top right side).
The cartridge(s) will be moved to the CAP.

Once all cartridges have been moved from the Storage Slot to the Cap, the Cap will need to be unlocked in order to be able to open the CAP and remove the cartridges from the CAP.

To unlock the CAP, you need to open the CAP folder within the diagnostics section on the right side and select the corresponding CAP.

Change the Locked value from “true” to “false” and click on “Apply” at the top right corner.

The following additional step may be needed if the cap is reserved.

To do a diagnostic move of tape to/from CAP , the CAP reservation on SLC needs to be changed to diagnostics mode from Host operation.

Please do the following > Tools -> CAP Assignment.

Once this is completed the CAP can be opened by pushing the OPEN soft switch button at the Operator panel and cartridge(s) can be removed.

After the CAP has been closed again a “enter command via HLI (ACSLS/HSC) can be performed and the cartridges can be found again by the HLI application.

Note: It is recommended to perform a SW audit (ACSL/HSC) to make sure that there is no mismatch between SL8500 and ACSL/HSC cartridge database .

Please make sure the CAP is empty before placing this online.
