Whenever a T7 system is being upgraded to SysFW 9.5.2.g or later from an earlier SysFW version, these instructions must be followed to ensure correct operation of the system. This procedure will require Web Browser-Based Network Management Connection as well as a Local Serial Management Connection. As much as possible will be done by way of the BUI. Expect this process to take possibly three to four times as long as a normal firmware upgrade A link to a Otube video capture of the upgrade being done on a T7-4 can be found at https://otube.oracle.com/media/0_4tht990j NOTE: Check the SRU prior to shutting down the host to make sure the correct fallback image is loaded. Record all network settings 1) Establish connection to the local serial management connect as "root" with full user role privelages (aucro) https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37445/z40019501400145.html#scrolltoc 2) Power off the host if the host is currently powered on https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37446/ceicbhgd.html#scrolltoc 3) The upgrade to SysFW 9.5.2.g or later from an earlier SysFW image will result in the Service Processor information being reset to factory default values so it is necessary to save the current Service Processor configuration BEFORE attempting to upgrade the SysFW.. Information on how to Back Up the Oracle ILOM Configuration Settings can be found at: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37446/z40048b81489311.html#scrolltoc 4) The upgrade to SysFW 9.5.2.g or later from an earlier SysFW image will require MULTIPLE(3 times) loads of the SysFW 9.5.2.g package. This is needed to ensure that both the primary and secondary flashes have been updated with the SysFW 9.5.2.g or later image. Information on updating the firmware image via the BIU can be found at: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37446/z400371a1482689.html#scrolltoc 5) Perform first firmware upgrade. Be sure to answer the question ... Preserve existing configuration is YES The SP will reboot and the boot messages will be seen on the serial console connection NOTE: After this first upgrade the password will be set back to the default of "changeme" 6) This first upgrade will cause the network configuration setting to be lost and will require use of the serial console connection to configure the SP network parameters. Log into the serial management port as root and configure he SP networkparameters https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37445/z4002a231406402.html#scrolltoc 7) Upgrade the system firmware for the second time. Be sure to answer the question ... Preserve existing configuration is YES https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37445/z40019501403436.html#scrolltoc 8) Upgrade the system firmware for the third time. Be sure to answer the question ... Preserve existing configuration is YES https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37445/z40019501403436.html#scrolltoc 9) Now that the Service Processor has completed the loading of the SysFW 9.5.2.g image, the Solaris fallback image must be reloaded. This step can be performed when connected to the Service Processor using the Web Browser-Based Network Management Connection, How to obtain the fallback image: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E53394_01/html/E54742/gplct.html NOTE: For step "c" the entry for product field would be "SPARC T7-1.....or T7-2, T7-4" For step "d" select from the drop down...."SPARC T7-1 Fallback Boot 11.3" For step "e" hit search and select correct version of fallback version and download file to a location available to the browser that will be used for the loading How to update the fall back image via the BUI https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37446/gqcim.html 10) The final step in these instructions is to restore the Service Processor configuration information that was saved in Step 3. This can be done via the BUI: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/html/E37446/z40048b81489452.html#scrolltoc At the conclusion of Step 10, the Service Processor will have been reset and should be at the login prompt on the Local Serial Management Connection. At this point the upgrade process is complete.
