Goal

This document assists with configuring an SL150 library for E-mail alerts

Solution

Customers can configure their SL150 library to send e-mail alerts so that they know when their SL150 library has a state and/or health change.

To configure e-mail alerts on a SL150 library please follow the steps below:

  1. Select Email Alerts from the menu on the left side of the interface.  The configure E-mail Alerts dialog will appear.
  2. To enable the alerting feature. In the Email Alerts list control, select On.
  3. In the SMTP Host Address field, enter the IP address of the Simple Mail Transport Protocol server that will handle outgoing mail for the library.  This is not the IP address of the library itself.
  4. In the SMTP Port field, enter the network port used by your SMTP server.  The default port for Simple Mail Transport Protocol is 25. But you may choose any port number that has not been reserved for other uses. Reserved ports include 0, 22, 80, 67, 68, 123, 514, 546, 547, 161, 162, and all ports in the range 33200-33500.
  5. In the From Name field, enter the name that should appear in the sender field of the email header or accept the default value, Library Alert.
  6. In the From Email field, enter the email address that should appear in the sender field of the email header.
  7. In the Secure Connection list control, select TLS (Transport Layer Security) unless the network does not support TLS.  The remaining Secure Connection selections are provided for compatibility with networks that do not support TLS. None provides no cryptographic protection. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is an older protocol that offers less protection than TLS.
  8. Provide the credentials that the library will use when logging in to the SMTP host. Enter the user name and password in the Username and Password fields, and re-enter the password in the Verify Password field.
  9. To enable email alerts and close the dialog, press OK.
  10. Next, you will need to add Email Alert recipients.

To add E-mail Recipients please follow the steps below:

  1. Select Email Alerts from the menu on the left side of the interface.  The Email Alerts property sheet appears.
  2. In the Email Recipients section of the Email Alerts property sheet, click the Add Recipient link.  The Add Email Recipient dialog appears.
  3. In the Recipient Email field of the Add Email Recipient dialog, enter the email address that should receive notifications.
  4. If the recipient should be notified when library health changes, check the Alert on Health and/or State Change checkbox.
  5. To to add the recipient and close the dialog, press OK.
  6. You can now send a test alert to test your E-mail Recipients

To test the E-mail Alert Recipients please follow the steps below:

  1. Select Email Alerts from the menu on the left side of the interface.  The Email Alerts property sheet appears.
  2. Select a recipient. In the Email Recipients section of the Email Alerts property sheet, click on the recipient account that you want to test.
  3. In the Email Recipients section of the Email Alerts property sheet, click the Send Test Email link.  The Send Test Email dialog appears.
  4. To to send the email test message and close the dialog, press OK.
