Goal

Provide steps to disable the Service Processor asset(s) in order to prevent generation of Automatic Service Requests during System Maintenance.

Solution

During Maintenance on Sparc Systems the Service Processor may detect faults which can result in unwanted generation of Automatic Service Requests if the Service Processor is configured as ASR asset.
To avoid generation of such Service Requests, the Service Processor asset can be disabled temporarily on the ASR Manager using the following steps:

  • log into your ASR Manager System and start the interactive ASR prompt:

    /opt/asrmanager/bin/asr (for Version 5.x)

    /opt/SUNWswasr/bin/asr (for Version 4.x)

  • retrieve the list of managed assets using the "list_asset" command

    asr> list_asset

  • disable the Service Processor asset(s) in the Sparc System(s) requiring Maintenance

    asr> disable_asset -i <IP-Address>

    or

    asr> disable_asset -h <Hostname>

  • once Maintenance is done on the Systems, check the Service Processor unit(s) for any faults reported during Maintenance and clear them

    For Mx000:

    XSCF> showstatus

    XSCF> clearfault <component>

For Service Processors using ILOM version 3 and later, refer to Doc ID 1309092.1

For Service Processors using ALOM shell, refer to Doc ID 1004229.1

  • on the ASR Manager System, enable the Service Processor asset(s) again

    asr> enable_asset -i <IP-Address>

    or

    asr> enable_asset -h <Hostname>

  • verify the Service Processor asset(s) is / are enabled again in the list of ASR managed assets using the "list_asset" command

    asr> list_asset
