Are Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 11.1.1.9.X and, or OBIEE 12c, version 12.2.1.X, supported and certified on Oracle Exalytics servers?

Solution

OBIEE 11.1.1.9.X and OBIEE 12c are supported and certified with Exalytics. There are some limitations depending on the operating system and specific OBIEE 12c release. Please see the details below depending on your Exalytics server model type.

Exalytics T5-8 servers:

• OBIEE 11.1.1.9 is supported on Solaris 11+ servers
• OBIEE 12.2.1.0 is supported and certified on Solaris 11, Update 2+ servers. OBIEE 12.2.1.3 is certified if the server has been upgraded to Solaris 11.3, (see Oracle Exalytics T5-8 11.3 SRU 7.6 Upgrade Procedure as needed). OBIEE 12.2.1.2 is not supported on any Solaris release.

Exalytics 'X' series servers (includes X2-4, X3-4, X4-4, X5-4 and X6-4)

OBIEE 11.1.1.9 is supported and certified for Exalytics Patchset (PS) 5 and higher.

• • If using PS5, the method of installation is manual install only.  
  • If upgrading from OBIEE 11.1.1.7.X to 11.1.1.9.X, please refer to the Fusion Middleware Upgrade Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence, Moving from 11.1.1.3, 11.1.1.5, 11.1.1.6, or 11.1.1.7 to 11.1.1.9.
  • If using Exalytics Release 2.0.0.0.0 or 2.0.0.1.0, you may install OBIEE 11.1.1.9 via the Exalytics Domain Management Utility (EDMU). Please see the Exalytics Installation Guide for details.

OBIEE 12c

• • OBIEE 12c is only certified and supported with Oracle Linux 6, Update 6 (OL 6.6) & higher. 
  • There are additional restrictions on which Linux 6 version, may be used with a specific OBIEE 12c version.  Specifically, OBIEE 12.2.1.0 and 12.2.1.2 are supported on both Exalytics Release 2.0.0.0.0 (OL 6.6) and Release 2.0.0.1.0 (OL 6.7).  However, OBIEE 12.2.1.3+ requires a higher Linux 6 version (6.7) and is therefore only supported with Exalytics Release 2.0.0.1.0.
  • EDMU install is not available currently. Only manual install is supported.
  • Any existing Exalytics servers running Patchset 5, or Release 2.0.0.0.0 with Oracle Linux 5, (both bare metal and OVM) should be re-imaged to OL6. This would involve backing up all installed application software and then doing a full re-image followed by OBIEE 12c manual install.
