Goal

This document provides details about what release of BDA and Linux kernel is mesos-slave with cgroups supported.

Solution

On Oracle Big Data Appliance, trying to start mesos-slave with cgroups fails with below:

Failed to create a containerizer: Could not create MesosContainerizer: Could not create isolator cgroups/cpu: Failed to find 'cpu.cfs_quota_us'. Your kernel might be too old to use the CFS cgroups feature.

As per Oracle Linux team, mesos-slave with cgroups is supported in UEKR3 QU6 and higher.

But with ALL current releases (BDA 4.3 is the latest release when this document is written), upgrading to UEK3 kernel is not supported.

BDA product team stated the plan for future is to upgrade from UEK2 but not in the short term and upgrade may be directly to UEK4.
