Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) - Version DSR 7.0.1 and later
Tekelec

Goal

The objective of this document is to address an occasion where DSR7.0 Software Upgrade Guide [E54117] Appendix K "Expired Password Workaround Procedure" is applied but fails to correct the condition.

Solution

In some instances, user passwords in the DSR GUI may expire at their normal expiry interval while the DSR network is in the midst of upgrade.  Typically this occurs when the Network OAM server (NOAM) is upgraded to a new release, but one or more of the Site OAM (SOAM) servers are still running the previous release.  This can happen particularly when the upgrade activity is spread over several days or even weeks.  When expiry occurs in this circumstance, the user will be prompted to change their password at the Network OAM as normal.  Their change takes effect on the NOAM and all other upgraded SOAM servers, but those SOAM servers still on the previous release will not receive the update.  Should a user attempt to log into that Site OAM GUI still on the previous release, the user will be informed that the user/password is incorrect (if trying 'new' password) or has expired and must be re-set at the Network OAM (if trying the 'old' password).

If after applying Appendix K (K1) of E54117 in an attempt to get around this condition the user is still being confronted with the error "You must change your password on Active NOAM&P server" or the other (non-expired) users are presented with "http 500" errors, the workaround below should be applied.

Workaround

Identify the following step in Appendix K (K1 Inhibit Password Aging) of the DSR 7.0 Software Upgrade Guide [ E54117:  http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E57516_01/docs.70/e54117_rev_04.pdf ]:

  1. Create a text file with the following content:
       [production]
       aw.policy.pwchange.isExpired = [development:production]
       [test:development]
  2. Replace the above content with the following:
       [production]
       aw.policy.pwchange.isExpired =
       aw.policy.db.checkPw =
       aw.policy.login.checkPw =
       [development : production]
       [test : development]
  3. And perform the entire Procedure again.

A documentation Bug has been written to address this error.  This KM will be obsolete after the Software Upgrade Guide has been corrected.
