DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
Note - This is a hot service procedure that can be performed by Customers while the server is running.
Caution - The drive must be taken offline and powered down before it is removed. If the drive cannot be offlined/powered down prior to its removal the OS must be shut down to prevent panicking of the system.
Caution - Watch for the blue-LED before pulling the drive!
Note - NVMe drives do not use Hardware RAID. The only RAID available for these drives are via the OS (ie. zfs).
If the system is still up and functioning, the customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
NOTE: For ALL scenarios where an AC power down or AC power cycle is required for a T7-x server, please always use the steps in doc 1571054.1 prior to physically removing AC power cables from the server. WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?: Ready NVMe Drive for Removal and Remove Drive 1. If the drive can be taken offline without shutting down the OS, use the following procedure to take it offline: Caution - At this time the drive blue Ready-to-Remove LED should be lit. Make sure this LED is lit on the NVMe drive prior to pulling it. If it isn't lit at this time make sure that you typed the above commands in correctly. If you did type the above commands in correctly you will need to shutdown the OS prior to pulling the drive. The system will panic if you try to pull the drive without the blue Ready-to-Remove LED lit.
d. If the blue Ready-to-Remove LED is lit you are now ready to remove the NVMe drive. Press the NVMe drive release button to unlock the drive and pull on the latch to remove the drive. Install NVMe Replacement Drive 1. Install the replacement NVMe drive: a. With the latch open on the replacement drive, align insert the drive into the drive bay and slide it forward until it is seated. 2. Bring the drive online: a. When installed, NVMe drives should automatically powerup and attach the driver. If for some rare reason it doesn't please use the hotplug enable /SYS/DBP/NVMEx command to powerup and attach the driver manually.
