DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:

Product knowledge, MaxRep3 Engine

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

What: A MaxRep3 Engine Power Supply has failed and needs to be replaced.

Where: The Oracle FS System Manager will generate a Warning.  MaxRep3 Power Supply location can be determined by visual inspection or using the ILOM interface under Open Problems.

Why: The Power Supply Cooling fan and/or the Power Supply itself has failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

The redundant Power Supply (PS0 or PS1) must be healthy in order to replace this component without disruption.

NOTE: Please review the Knowledge Document 1942676.1 FS System: How to Disable Call Home to Prevent Automatic Service Request ASR Generation before proceeding with the procedure below. The steps contained therein are provided to allow an Administrator to de-activate a particular ASR enabled array while performing maintenance or troubleshooting. This will prevent any additional Service Requests from being created unnecessarily.

NOTE: Unlike the FS1-2 Controller power supply, either 300-2299 or 7065505 are valid parts for MaxRep3 Engine.  NEVER use 300-2299 in an FS1-2 Controller.

QRC for this procedure:
MaxRep3 Power Supply

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

    1. Disable Call-Home to prevent spurious alerts (see Document 1942676.1 FS System: How to disable Call Home to prevent Automatic Service Request ASR Generation).
    2. Use ESD precautions.
    3. Visually inspect the power supplies for the fault LED and note if it is the lower (PS0) or upper (PS1) power supply.
    4. Remove the defective power supply:
      1. Deploy the anti-tilt legs.
      2. Pull the MaxRep3 Engine into the service position.
      3. Remove the power cord from the defect power supply.
      4. Press the green release tab to the left (when viewed from rear) and pull on the handle.

NOTE: If you are replacing the lower Power Supply (PS0), disconnect the Cable Management Arm (CMA) to allow easier removal of the failed component.  See Oracle MaxRep for SAN Hardware Guide for details.
      5. Continue to pull the power supply until it is clear of the MaxRep3 Engine chassis.
    5. Install the replacement power supply:
      1. Insert replacement power supply into the MaxRep3 Engine chassis.
      2. Insert power cord.
      3. Return the MaxRep3 Engine into the rack position.
      4. Return the anti-tilt legs to their normal position.
    6. When finished, re-enable Call-Home.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm that the replacement power supply was successful - the Warning under Status Summary in the Oracle FS System Manager GUI  associated with it should be gone and the FS1-2 should be normal/green.
