Solution

Applies to:

Sun StorageTek L1400 Tape Library - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Impact:
If a customer has slot licensing, partitioning licensing, continuous capacity licensing, and/or library aggregation licensing, they must save the configuration file off the Interface Control Module prior to being replaced.
If this is not done, the customer will lose all of their licensing and there is no way to get the information back unless the original Interface Control Module is still available.

Contributing Factors

1- L1400 customers whom have purchased any licensed features.
2- code lower than 5.8.0c or current code 5.8.25 can cause loss of access to these files also

Symptoms

Customer will no long have their licensed features that they purchased.

Goal

Root Cause:

This is caused by replacing the Interface Control Module without saving the configuration file off of the Interface Control Module first.

If this is not done, there is no way for Oracle to re-issue the licenses to the customer as 'Crossroads' EOL'd the Interface Control Module and no longer provides support or licenses for the product.

        Identification of Affected Parts :

No visual inspection is needed as the Interface Control Module just would need to have the configuration file retrieved from it and stored in a safe and known place.

Solution

How to save the files:

Customers or Field Engineers should save the configuration file off and keep it in a safe and known location so that it can be retrieved at a later date if the Interface Control Module ever has to be replaced.

To pull the configuration file from the original Interface Control Module before it is replaced, please follow the these steps:

 1.    Log into the Interface Control Module's IP address with a Web Browser.
 2.    From the main page click on the “Utitlities” menu to the left side of the page.
 3.    Then click on the “FTP Utility” link to the bottom left of the page.
 4.    Enter the username and password and the IP address, then click on the “Connect” button.
 5.    Click on the “Browse” button to choose a file name and directory to save the configuration file to.
 6.    Select “Binary” for a binary transfer.
 7.    Click “Get from Rtr” to retrieve the configuration file from the Interface Control Module and save it in a safe/known location so that if it is needed in the future retrieved.

Resolution - to restore saved files:

The only way to resolve this is to have the configuration file that was saved off at an earlier date.

To load a configuration file onto a newly replaced Interface Control Module, please follow the following steps:
 1.    Log into the Interface Control Module's IP address with a Web Browser.
 2.    From the main page click on the “Utilities” menu to the left of the page.
 3.    Then click on the “FTP Utility” link to the bottom left of the page.
 4.    Enter the username and password and the IP address, then click on the “Connect” button.
 5.    Once you are connected to the Interface Control Module click on “Browse” to browse for the configuration file that was saved at an earlier date.
 6.    Select “Binary” for a binary transfer.
 7.    Click on “Put to Rtr” to transfer the file to the Interface Control Module.
 8.    Once a valid configuration file has been transferred to the Interface Control Module it will reboot and cause the configuration settings to be loaded to the Interface Control Module.

This will populate the licenses that the customer had purchased for their L1400 library.
