WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 Product training TASK COMPLEXITY: 2 TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes HOT replacement FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : This activity can be performed as an active/hot replacement or as a cold replacement WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Determine which SP/SPP has a battery that requires service For a SP: M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor (SP) in a CMIOU chassis or in a Switch chassis (Doc ID 1988106.1), Determining which SP requires service For a SPP: M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor Proxy (SPP) in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1988126.1), Determine which SPP requires service
2. Prepare the identified SP/SPP for removal For a SP: M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor (SP) in a CMIOU chassis or in a Switch chassis (Doc ID 1988106.1), Preparing to remove a SP For a SPP: M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor Proxy (SPP) in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1988126.1), Preparing to remove a SPP
3. Remove the identified SP/SPP For a SP: M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor (SP) in a CMIOU chassis or in a Switch chassis (Doc ID 1988106.1), Removing a SP For a SPP: M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor Proxy (SPP) in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1988126.1), Removing a SPP
4. Release the thumb screw and slide the top cover of the SP to the rear 5. Lift the top cover off of the SP. 6. Locate the system battery. 7. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, lift the battery out of the holder 8. Insert the new battery with the positive side facing out
9. Install the SP/SPP back into the server For a SP: M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor (SP) in a CMIOU chassis or in a Switch chassis (Doc ID 1988106.1), Installing a SP For a SPP: M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor Proxy (SPP) in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1988126.1), Installing a SPP
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: 1. Verify that the fault has been cleared and the replaced component is operational 2. Verify that the Power OK LED is lit, and that the Fault LED and front and rear Service Required LEDs are not lit. 3. Verify that there is no faulty components
4. Perform SP/SPP specific check For a SP: M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor (SP) in a CMIOU chassis or in a Switch chassis (Doc ID 1988106.1), OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE For a SPP: M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Service Processor Proxy (SPP) in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1988126.1), OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
