Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:

T5440 product training or field experience with other CMT servers.

TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes

Task Complexity: 1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS (customer is not authorized to use service mode)

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Power Distribution Board Failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove Power Distribution Board:

■ Power off the server and disconnect Power cords from the server
■ Extend the Server to the Maintenance Position
■ Remove a Power Supply

Note – You must remove all four power supplies from the system.

■ Perform Electrostatic Discharge
■ Remove the Top Cover

Do the following:
1. Remove the flex cable retainer.
Loosen the captive No. 2 Phillips screw and lift the retainer up and out of the chassis.

2. Unplug the flex cable from the power distribution board.

3. Unplug the auxiliary power cable from the power distribution board.

4. Remove the No. 2 Phillips screw.

5. Remove the two 7 mm hex nuts securing the bus bars to the power distribution board.

6. Slide the power distribution board up and out of the chassis.

Install Power Distribution Board:

1. Align the keyholes in the power distribution board with the corresponding mushroom standoffs in the chassis.

2. Lower the power distribution board into the chassis.

3. Install the No. 2 Phillips screw.

4. Install the two 7 mm nuts securing the bus bars to the power distribution board.

5. Plug in the flex cable connector. Ensure that the auxilliary power cable is routed under the flex cable connector.

6. Plug in the auxiliary power cable.

7. Install the flex cable retainer. Place the retainer into position and tighten the captive No.2 Phillips screw.

■ Install the Top Cover
■ Slide the Server Into the Rack
■ Install a Power Supply

Note – Install all four power supplies.

■ Connect the Power Cords to the Server

■ Power On the Server

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
