ESD Caution:
- Circuit boards and drives contain electronic components that are extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ordinary amounts of static electricity from clothing or the work environment can destroy the components located on these boards. Do not touch the components along their connector edges.
- Use a Antistatic Wrist strap. Attach one end of the strap to your wrist and the other end to the chassis, depending on what type of strap you use, with the adhesive end or the metal plug.
- Use an Antistatic Mat. Place ESD-sensitive components such as motherboards, memory, and other PCBs on an antistatic mat.
Contamination Caution:
- Dust particles of packaging material are number one cause of datacenter contamination. Make sure to remove all packaging material, up to the ESD safe packaging material, while still being outside the datacenter.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : Physical Domains must be stopped. Server must have AC power removed.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Remove the Front Indicator Panel Cable
Remove AC power using the circuit breakers on the appropriate PDU before performing this procedure.
1. Power down the server (requires Oracle ILOM Reset and Host Control (r) user role)
- -> stop /System
- Stopping the server can take some time, and you must wait until the following message appears on the host(s) console before proceeding to the next step.
-> SP NOTICE: Host is off
2. Remove power using the circuit breakers on the appopriate PDU. Turn breakers off in the following sequence :
- For a SPARC M8-8 / M7-8 server:
- Bottom chassis in rack
- R8, R7, R6
- L2, L1, L0
- Middle chassis in rack
- R5, R4, R3
- L5, L4, L3
- Top chassis in rack
- R2, R1, R0
- L8, L7,L6
- For a SPARC M7-16 server:
- R4, R5, L5, L4
- R0, R1, R2, L8, L7, L6
- R6, R7, R8, L2, L1, L0
where R indicates the right PDU from the rear of the server, L indicates the left PDU from the rear of the server, and the number represents the PDU group number.
3. From the rear of the server, remove the SPs, and unseat the SP tray from the impacted chassis.

- Check M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Fan cable in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1991434.1) for details
9. Release the Molex connector.
- Reach through the hinging access door on the chassis divider floor where the SP tray slides to unlatch the Molex connector.
10. Remove the two captive screws that secure the cable to the chassis.
11. Remove the cable through the opening in the chassis
- If the cable you are replacing is in the CMIOU chassis, remove the cable through opening between the fan modules and the CMIOU area.
- If the cable you are replacing is in the switch unit chassis, remove the access panel on the left side of the interconnect assembly area and slide the cable through the opening.
Install the Front Indicator Panel Cable
1. Install the cable through the opening in the chassis and secure the Molex connector.
- If the cable you are replacing is in the CMIOU chassis, from inside the CMIOU area, feed the cable through the area behind the fan module bays
- If the cable you are replacing is in the switch unit chassis, feed the cable through the area where the access panel on the left side of the interconnect assembly was removed
2. Reinstall the two captive screws that secure the cable to the chassis.
3. If the cable you are replacing is in the switch unit chassis, reinstall the access panel on the left side of the interconnect assembly area.
4. If the cable you are installing is in the CMIOU chassis, reinstall the left CMIOU chassis fan cable assembly.
- Check M8-8 / M7-8 / M7-16 How to replace a Faulty Fan cable in a CMIOU chassis (Doc ID 1991434.1) for details
5. Reinstall the front indicator panel.

where R indicates the right PDU from the rear of the server, L indicates the left PDU from the rear of the server, and the number represents the PDU group number.
11. As soon as PDU circuit breakers are switched on, standby power is applied, and the SP boots.
Return the faulted component to Oracle.
- If the replacement included safety covers on the connectors, install the covers on the component that you are
- In the shipping container that contained the replacement component:
- Using the same material used to pack the replacement component, position the component so that it is not free to move.
- Add any required paperwork or other documentation in the container.
- Except when packing CMIOUs, include any tools that were loaned to you by Oracle. Do not place tools inside a container that is being used to return a CMIOU.
- Close the shipping container and seal it with the packaging tape supplied by Oracle.
- Apply the shipping label to the shipping container.
- Notify Oracle or an authorized shipper that the carton container is ready for pickup.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. When SP ILOM is available, verify that there is no faulty components
- -> show faulty
- -> show /System/Open_Problems
- faultmgmtsp> fmadm faulty
2. Start the server by running the ILOM command "start /System" (requires Oracle ILOM Reset and Host Control (r) user role).
