TASK COMPLEXITY: 3-FRU

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS.

A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.

Replacing the HBA Supercap is a cold-service operation.

You must power off the server and and remove the AC power cords from the system before you remove the supercap.

Note:  If this is an Exalogic server running OVS with virtual servers, please verify customer has readied the server by moving VM's off of the server and placed the server in maintenance mode.  See Document:  Making an OVS Node Unavailable for vServer Placement in Exalogic Virtual Environments using EMOC (Doc ID 1551724.1)

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the system for service

  1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
  2. Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
  3. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.

2. Remove the top cover.

  1. Fully loosen the two captive screws at the rear of the top cover.
  2. Slide the top cover backward about .50 inch (13mm), lift top cover straight up and off from chassis.
  3. Remove the super capacitor from the center clear container attached to the middle of the air baffle (if the system is using 12Gbs SAS PCIe RAID HBA card). Place the super capacitor on an antistatic mat.

3. Replace the HBA super capacitor

  1. Grasp both ends of the HBA super capacitor cable connector, press in on the release latch, and then unplug the connector.
  2. Press on the side release latches of the ESM top cover and lift up to remove the top cover.
  3. Remove the faulty super capacitor and place aside.
  4. Install the replacement super capacitor, the text is on the top, the velcro spacers are on the bottom.
  5. Install the ESM top cover, the cable slot will be on the front right on the cover.
  6. Connect the super capacitor's cable.
  7. Install the top cover

4. Return the Server to operation.

  1. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
  2. Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
  3. Re-install the power cords and any data cables that were removed.
  4. Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
