Goal

SL150 - Does Tape Library Support Control and Data Path fail over?

Solution

The SL150 library is a unified data and control path, using a bridging (Automation Drive Interface (ADI)) for library control and data transfer

According to the specs, the SL150 supports half-height HP LTO-5 or LTO-6, FC and SAS, or half-height IBM LTO-6 FC and SAS drives

The half-height HP LTO 5 FC drives only have a single interface (as do the SAS ones); the HP LTO 6 FC drives have two interfaces but normally only come with a single transceiver. Not sure about the IBM LTO 6 FC drives.

The picture in the SL150 Install Manual only shows a single cable from each drive.

The SL150 data sheet does not mention anything about redundant data and control paths under “Availability”.

Finally there’s a document on Oracle’s support site “Bridged Libraries - Netbackup SG Driver Fails to Attach to Media Changer When Solaris mpxio is Enabled which recommends disabling Solaris MPXIO (multipathing driver) to the library, therefore strongly suggesting that this library does not support multipathing.
