Goal
How to Power Cycle reset the FMM (Frame Management Module) in an NMS (Netra Modular System)
Solution
NOTE: This process will not cause a service interruption.
Step overview:
1. Connect to the FMM
2. Get the three items needed to generate an escalation mode password
3. Create a new user with correct access roles
4. Login as the newly created user
5. Enter escalation mode to issue the command
After the FMM has reboot:
6. Set FMM time
7. Remove the newly created user
Step details.
1. Connect to the FMM as root.
One method would be to connect into the FMM serial mgmt. port via the RJ45 coupler panel port 40.

Another method is to ssh in from one of the compute nodes.
[root@x5-2m-bur09-a ~]# ssh 10.10.0.253
Password:
Oracle(R) Integrated Lights Out Manager
Version 3.2.5.14 r101001

Warning: password is set to factory default.
Warning: HTTPS certificate is set to factory default.
Hostname: ORACLEFMM-489089M+1515CK0032
2a. Get the three items needed to generate an escalation mode password
-> show /FMM/clock datetime
/FMM/clock
Properties:
datetime = Fri Sep 11 15:27:41 2015
-> version
FMM firmware 3.2.5.14
FMM firmware build number: 101001
FMM firmware date: Mon Jul 6 15:12:15 EDT 2015
FMM filesystem version: 0.2.10
-> show /System component_serial_number
/System
Properties:
component_serial_number = 489089M+1515CK0032
2b. Open a collab to get an escalation mode password.
Someone will create the escalation mode password for you using the three items collected:
3. Create a new user with correct access roles.
The example shown creates the user 'modechange' with password 'changeme' and sets the roles to 'aoucrs'
After the new user has been created, logout from the current session.
-> create /FMM/users/modechange password=changeme role=aoucrs
Creating user...
Created /FMM/users/modechange
-> exit
Connection to 10.10.0.253 closed.
4. Login as the newly created user
[root@x5-2m-bur09-a ~]# ssh 10.10.0.253 -l modechange
Password:
Oracle(R) Integrated Lights Out Manager
Version 3.2.5.14 r101001
Copyright (c) 2015, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
Warning: HTTPS certificate is set to factory default.
Hostname: ORACLEFMM-489089M+1515CK0032
5. Enter escalation mode where you can issue the i2ctool command.
When in escalation mode, the prompt changes and you will be at the bash shell where you can enter unix commands.
Enter this command: i2ctool -B 3 -d 0x42 -w 2 0xff
-> set /FMM check_physical_presence=false
Set 'check_physical_presence' to 'false'
-> set /FMM/users/modechange/escalation/ escalation_password=true
Password:*** *** **** **** **** *** *** **** **** **** **** **** *** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** *** *
Short form password is: ROSS RAID RISE
-> set SESSION mode=escalation
Short Form Password:**** **** ****
[(escalation_mode) ORACLEFMM-489089M+1515CK0032:~]# i2ctool -B 3 -d 0x42 -w 2 0xff
6. After the FMM has been power cycled, login again as root and check the clock.
The current FMM has no onboard battery and the date may get reset to Dec 31, 1969.
If needed, set the FMM clock using the format this format: MMDDhhmmYYYY
-> show /FMM/clock
Properties:
datetime = Wed Dec 31 19:02:49 1969
timezone = EST (EST)
uptime = 0 days, 00:02:50
usentpserver = disabled
-> set /FMM/clock datetime=091115272015
Set 'datetime' to '091115272015' [Fri Sep 11 15:27:00 2015]
-> show /FMM/clock
Properties:
datetime = Fri Sep 11 15:27:04 2015
timezone = EST (EST)
uptime = 0 days, 00:09:32
usentpserver = disabled
7. Remove the newly created user from step 3.
-> delete /FMM/users/modechange
Are you sure you want to delete /FMM/users/modechange (y/n)? y
Deleted /FMM/users/modechange
-> exit
The following is included just for reference.
It shows the output during the power cycle of the FMM when you are connected to the FMM serial port.
Enter the following command to reset the FMM
[(flash)root@ORACLEFMM-489089M+1515CK0032:~]# i2ctool -B 3 -d 0x42 -w 2 0xff
