Goal

The Sun ZFS Appliance 7410 motherboard has a chipset ILOM also known as the Service Processor that stored fault events.

The service processor chip can be effected by Solaris Fault Management Architecture (FMA).

Recommendation below are the steps to clear a SYS SERVICE led from ON to OFF.

Solution

 A Problem exists

-> show /SYS/SERVICE/

 /SYS/SERVICE

    Targets:
    Properties:
        type = Indicator
        value = On

Steps to take to evaluate the problem

Check that all the power and temperature values are with-in a normal range and hardware values are off.

-> show -o table -level all /SYS

If there is a hardware value set to On, confirm in Solaris that both see the same issue before shipping hardware for repairs.

-> start /SP/console
 login to the CLI
hostname:> maintenance problems
hostname: maintenance problems> ls
if any issues clear the faults
hostname: maintenance problems> select problem-000 markrepaired
answer "y" for yes

If the appliance kit software is older than 2011.8.1 then open a Service Request with the NAS team to clean-up the FMA logs.

Some newer Appliance Kit Software may still have older FMA logs that were never cleaned-up after a upgrade and may also need to cleared.

If you are the NAS tech and need help please open a collab to a technical expert on the NAS team. Who will use the manual FMA repairs

Go back to the SP

key combination is    esc shift 9    to change from CLI to SP prompt

If the Appliance Kit reports the hardware ok then correct the issue in ILOM.

Example:

-> cd /SYS/MB/P1/D1
-> set clear_fault_action=true
or
-> set /SYS/MB/P1/D1 clear_fault_action=true

> reset /SP
Are you sure you want to reset /SP (y/n)? y

Log back-in to the Service Processor after 2-5 minutes

Laptop Option to connect to SP

If the customer does not have remote console setup, the option from a laptop is ...

Connect a serial cable to the RJ-45 SER MGT port on the server’s back panel and to a laptop.

Configure the terminal emulation software running on a laptop or PC to the following settings:

    8N1: eight data bits, no parity, one stop bit
    9600 baud
    No hardware of software flow control
