Applies to:SPARC T3-2 - Version All Versions and laterOracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) GoalHow to Replace a T3-2 PCI/HBA Card ******************************************************************************* To report errors or request improvements on this procedure please Add a Comment on Doc ID: 1507219.1 ******************************************************************************* SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes Task Complexity: 0 REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: PCI/HBA card failure WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. The system needs to be shutdown by customer. WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED: *** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge 1. Power off the server 2. Disconnect all power cables 3. Disconnect any data cables connected to the HBA being serviced 4. Remove the Top Cover 5. Locate the PCIe card that you want to remove. 6. If necessary, make a note of where the PCIe cards are installed. 7. Unplug all data cables from the PCIe card. 8. Remove the PCIe card filler panel by completing the following tasks: a. Disengage the PCIe card slot crossbar from its locked position and rotate the crossbar to an upright position. b. Carefully remove the PCIe card from the card slot. 9. Place the HBA on an antistatic mat 10. Insert the new HBA into the riser board 11. After replacing reverse the order of fixing as mentioned in above points
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system: 1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared. 2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results: * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults. * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required 3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation. NOTE: Customer might need to consult the PCI/HBA specific manual for procedure to bring the card into operation.
