Applies to:

Oracle Communications Performance Intelligence Center (PIC) Software - Version 9.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

When using port mirroring to feed an IP PMF it can happen you have some IP frames duplicated without any way to avoid it in the port mirroring configuration.

Two IP packets are considered identical if the following fields are matching:

  • Ident,
  • Protocol,
  • IpSource,
  • IpDestination,
  • FragOffset

This document explains how to enable duplicate IP packets removale.

Solution

Enabling feature

In order to avoid correlation issues and/or remove the duplication, following parameters must be set:

  • "Duplicate Suppression" checkbox in Traffic Classification (TC)
  • Set the parameter DupIpPktTimeoutMs parameter set to a value different from zero in PMF settings (right click on PMF in CCM).

Monitoring impact of parameter

In order to control the behaviour of the feature use the command watch cat /proc/driver/pmia/global:

dupIp_items 913
dupIp_pkt 349754933

dupIp_items is the number of entries inside the duplicate IP packet table. This must be stable and much smaller that dupIp_pkt.

dupIp_pkt is the total number of packets suppressed by the duplicate ip packet feature since startup.
