Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN).
Reason: To provide the partners and Oracle engineers with a quick health check
Created from <SR 3-11210145626>

Applies to:

StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager System 6 (VSM6) - Version All Versions and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Goal

--Confirm the VSM6 nodes are healthy.

--Verify all VSM6 resources are active and fully operational

--Check the nodes for any hardware issues and active alarms.

Solution

Collect the current SFB (Support File Bundle).

A SFB will occur once a day or if an error occurs.  If necessary, a manual SFB can be taken.  This must be done for each node.

--Review the latest VSM6 Install, Config, and Service manual, section VSM 6 Support Bundle Collection to initiate an manual SFB and location of the SFB.

--Obtain the SFB from each VSM6 node to perform a basic health check of the nodes and for further analysis.

If necessary, collect the recent statesaves from each node.  See referenced link to this solution further below.

Each SFB name will display the VSM6 SN, the node (priv1 or priv2), and the TOD it was taken.  Each file will be a BZipped2 TAR file.

The following steps 1-3 are for Oracle Employees only.

1. Once the SFBs are obtained, upload each to the SPLAT web site https://tapesupport.us.oracle.com/.

2. Verify there are no abnormal hardware issues by clicking on the tabs for Major Events, Alarms, Network, and Support Actions.

3. Click on the logs files Tab and scroll down to system_logfiles, and open file display_health_check.txt.

If SPLAT is not available, follow Steps 1-3 below for Partners.

The following steps 1-3 are for Partners (without access to SPLAT)

1. Once the SFBs are obtained, upload each to a PC.  The SFB will be a BZipped2 tar file and will need to be unzipped.

2. Right click on the .bz2 file to unzip and extract the tar file.  Right click on the .tar file to extract the SFB.

3. Open the SFB, directory, and system_logfiles directory, and open file display_health_check.txt.

Suggestion: if possible, use Wordpad to view files.  The file format will be easier to review.

4. Check the first section for any Warnings and/or Failures

  a. Resolve all Failures.  VSM6 hardware failures, TDX, SSD, FC, drives, should be reported here.

  b. Review all Warnings and resolve when possible.

5. Scroll down to the section called Analysis and verify the following.

  a. Cluster status (scstat -g): All VSM6 resources are fully operational

  b. Quorum status (clq status): vsmpriv1, vsmpriv2, and quorum device are online

  c. Scroll down and check that the others show SUCCESS.  Typically if they do not, a Warning would display at the top.

6. Scroll down to  -- Cluster Nodes --  (/usr/cluster/bin/scstat -n)

    Each node should be online.

                    Node name           Status
                    ---------           ------
  Cluster node:     vsmpriv1            Online
  Cluster node:     vsmpriv2            Online

7. Scroll down to === Quorum Devices ===     (/usr/cluster/bin/clq show)

  a. The quorum device must be an SSD.  Typically this is d1, d2, d3, d4, d5, or d6.

  b. If not d1-d6, check the file vfstab.txt.  It will list the 6 SSDs-- (exp: /dev/global/dsk/d1s0)

  c. If the quorum device is not an SSD, contact Tech Support for assistance.

8. Scroll down to === Cluster Quorum ===  (/usr/cluster/bin/clq status)

    Each vote should be online

 vsmpriv1        1             1              Online
 vsmpriv2        1             1              Online
      d1               1            1              Online

9. If any of the above is not correct, contact Tech Support for assistance.
