DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: SPARC T7-2 Product Training required, to be serviced by qualified Oracle Service personnel, requires the ability to follow steps similar to what is in the Product Service manual.
Time Estimate: 60 minutes Task Complexity: 1 REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS: PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SPARC T7-2 Fan Cage Assembly Replacement WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : This is a cold service procedure that must be performed by qualified service personnel. The system must be completely powered down before performing this procedure.
If the system is still up and functioning, the customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
NOTE: For ALL scenarios where an AC power down or AC power cycle is required for a T7-x server, please always use the steps in doc 1571054.1 prior to physically removing AC power cables from the server. WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE: Prepare for servicing: a. Attach an antistatic wrist strap. b. Power off the server and unplug power cords from the power supplies. c. Extend the server to the maintenance position. d. Remove the top cover. Removing the Fan Board 1. Remove all fan modules. 2. Remove all memory risers.
3. Disconnect any cables plugged into the USB or video connectors on the front of the server. 4. Remove the fan board by completing the following tasks: a. Loosen the three captive screws connecting the front memory riser guide to the motherboard. b. Remove the two screws on each side of the outside of the chassis that hold the fan board in place and unplug the fan board and power cables from motherboard. c. Remove the front memory riser guide by pulling it up and out of the chassis. d. Pull the fan board back and out of chassis (The circuit board and the fan holder portions of the fan board should remain together). Installing the Fan Board 1. Unpack the replacement fan board unit and place it on an antistatic mat. 2. Remove the fan board cable and power cables from the faulty fan board and plug the cables into the fan board on the replacement fan board unit. 3. Reinstall the fan board unit by completing the following tasks: a. Insert the fan board into the chassis, moving it down and toward the front. b. Reposition the front memory riser guide, routing the fan board and power cable through the riser guide. c. Plug the fan board cable and power cable into the connectors on the motherboard. d. Secure the fan board by reinserting and tightening the two screws on each side of the outside of the chassis.
e. Tighten the three captive screws to hold the front memory riser guide in place. 4. Reinstall all fan modules. 5. Reinstall all memory risers. 6. Return the server to operation: a. Install the top cover. b. Return the server to the normal rack position. c. Reinstall the power cords to the power supplies and power on the server. NOTE: The product serial number used for service entitlement and warranty coverage might need to be reprogrammed on the fan board by authorized service personnel with the correct product serial number located on the chassis EZ label. Refer to doc 1280913.1 for the procedure to update the product serial number.
