TIME ESTIMATE: 45 mins TASK COMPLEXITY: 1 FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS: PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Disk Failure/Fault WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The operating system should be configured by the customer such that the disk drive is free for replacement. WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?: Removing a Disk Drive 1. Remove the EMI door. a. Use a screwdriver to open up the EMI door. 2. Locate the defective disk drive. Your system might have more than one disk drive. Note – If you remove more than one disk drive, take note of the slot each drive was installed into. The SCSI target addresses for the drives are assigned based on the drive’s position. The SCSI target address for the lower drive slot is 0, and the upper drive slot is 1. 3. Unlatch the drive handle and swing it open. Replacing a Disk Drive Note – If there are two drives, install the drives into their original slots. If the drives are not installed in their original slots, the system may fail to boot, or file systems may fail to mount. 1. With the drive handle open, press on the end of the drive to insert the drive all the way into the chassis and connect it to the SCSI backplane. 3. Replace the EMI door.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot system and verify functionality. Reconfigure disk as previously configured. e.g. Part of raid set or mounted file-system or raw partition or other. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
