How to Replace an Oracle Server X5-4 DVD Drive.

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: An Oracle Server X5-4 DVD Drive needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.

A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

1. Prepare the server for service.

Remove any media from the DVD drive
Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
Attach an anti-static wrist strap.

2. Remove the DVD Drive

Locate the DVD drive.
To disengage the DVD drive from the chassis, press and hold the release tab on the front left side of the DVD drive.
Gently pull the DVD drive forward and slide it out the front of the server
Place the DVD Drive on an antistatic mat.

3. Install the replacement DVD Drive

Remove the replacement DVD drive from it's anti-static bag and place on an anti-static mat.
align the DVD drive with the drive opening at the front of the server.
Push the replacement DVD drive into the chassis until the release tab on the front left side of the dvd drive engages the chassis with an audible click.

4.Return the Server to operation

Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
Re-install the AC power cords and verify both power supply units have green led's for normal operation.
Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
Verify that the replacement DVD functions properly.

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Boot up system and verify full functionality
