Goal

This document outlines the options to configure the Oracle AP Session Border Controller for handling "OPTIONS" pings received from a Session Agent (SA), and the procedures for modifying the default behavior.

Solution

By default, the Session Border Controller will normally forward OPTIONS requests from the SA based upon the local-policy being matched.

Now there are 2 options though to configure the SBC to respond to OPTIONS pings:

Option # 1

If you set the max-hops to 0, then the SBC would reply with 483 Too Many Hops. (this is the easiest method to get the SBC to respond directly, but it will respond with a 483)

Option #2

Use an HMR to manipulate this and respond with a 200OK.

Here is an example of an HMR to accomplish this:

sip-manipulation

        name                           rejectOPTIONS

        description

        split-headers

        join-headers

        header-rule

                name                           rejectOPTIONS

                header-name                    request-uri

                action                         reject

                comparison-type                case-sensitive

                msg-type                       request

                methods                        OPTIONS

                match-value

                new-value                      200:OK

You can set this to the in-manipulationid on sip-interface, realm or session-agent that you wish the SBC reply from.
