Goal
IP Connection unavailable Alarms are observed on International Gateway link:
0926.0084 ** IP7CONN assocname IP Connection Unavailable
****15-05-20 08:40:39****
0480.0085 IP7CONN assocname IP Connection Available
****15-05-20 08:39:08****
Solution
Few points regarding SIGTRAN for understanding:
1. Retransmissions will occur when acknowledgement for a PDU does not reach STP within the stipulated time (Retransmission Time Out – RTO).
2. RTIMES is the maximum number of consecutive retransmissions after which a PDU will be dropped and association will be put down as too much retransmissions are occurring.
3. If the associations do not go down in times of retransmissions; the congestion window buffers will eventually overflow causing loss of traffic. So an association being put out of service due to retransmissions is correct approach.
Observations:
There are high number of retransmissions seen both in the measurement data of the respective associations as well as in the command outputs.
Recommendations:
1. Check the network latency. (Too much difference between minimum RTT and maximum RTT. Average RTT being too close to RMIN will mean that there are few times when RTT gets too high).
2. Check on IP network if SIGTRAN traffic is being given highest priority. (A QoS parameter in some routers/switches).
