StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

We need to take this special process when we have already replaced the robotics module and returned it and we have not been able to fully initialize the library in the meanwhile, so that any subsequent replacement of either the Op Panel or the Base Module would cause a serial number mismatch. In this situation the configuration in the KLC card, located at the robotics CRU, has not been updated with the current configuration and serial number. If we now just replace the base chassis, which holds the KLM card and USB stick, we would corrupt the current configuration and end up in serial number mismatch condition. The purpose of this process is to avoid the serial number mismatch condition, while replacing the base chassis.

Goal

This document will assist with the steps needed to use the existing USB stick and the KLM card from the original base chassis, after replacement.

Solution

Note:
The reason we take both the KLM and USB stick, and not just the USB stick is due the fact that we have learned that the USB stick on the KLM card hold the KLM FRU ID in it, and thus pairs this stick with the KLM card. So we have to move them as a pairs in these situations.

1. Remove the existing damaged base chassis, following the replacement instructions.
Do not install the new chassis yet. There’s a video included in this KB.

2. Once you have the ”original” Chassis on the table, and the Robot and Drives and Power Supplies and Op-panel have been removed, follow these steps to take out the original USB stick and the KLM card(Motherboard) from both chassis frames, and swap them between them keeping the USB stick and the KLM as a pair.

3. De-attach these two cables from the KLM card marked with RED.

KLM Step 3

4. Unscrew these two torx screws in the corners of the left side of the card.

KLM Step 4

5. Slide out the card to left direction to remove the card. Keep the USB stick with the KLM card, do not remove it. Mark this KLM+USB combo as ”original”.

6. Locate the spare Chassis shipped for replacement and take it out of the box.

7. Follow the steps 3 and 4 with the spare chassis as well and mark KLM+USB combo to be ”from factory”.

8. Install the ”original” KLM+USB combo to the new spare chassis.

9. Install the ”from factory” KLM+USB combo to the original damaged chassis.

10. Continue the steps in the original KB for replacing the base chassis, following up from the place you left off. i.e. you now follow the replacement instructions as you just followed the removal instructions.

11. Return the old chassis to logistics.
