FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Removing the DVD is a Hot Swap operation.    

  
Notice:  You will need to remove the disk in slot 5 in order to complete the replacement.   The customer needs to be aware of this requirement.
  

  

1. Consider your first step.

  •  Notify the customer/admin, he/she are required to take the drive in slot 5 offline according to Operating System (OS) instructions.  See the OS documentation.

2. Review this information and complete these prerequisites in this order.

  • Remove the Filter on page 89
  • Remove a Disk Drive on page 97
    • Remove disk in slot 5
  • Remove DVD on page 103


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Prepare for Service:

Attach an anti-static wrist strap


1. Remove the front air filter, the slot 5 disk

  1. On the front air filter pinch the right and left release levers inwards, pivot the air filter forward and lift it out and away from the chassis.
  2. Verify that the slot 5 drive's blue Ready-to-Remove LED is lit.
  3. Press the release button and pivot the release lever open to the right.
  4. Grasp the release lever and pull the drive out of the chassis.
  5. Set the Disk aside in a safe location.

2. Replace the DVD drive

  1. Remove any media from DVD drive.
  2. Grasp the tab under the right side of the DVD drive and pull the tab out.
  3. Continue to pull the tab, so that the DVD drive slides out of the chassis.
  4. Set the DVD drive aside.
  5. Extend the tab out from the underside of the replacement DVD drive.
  6. Align the DVD drive to the location where it installs into the chassis.  The DVD drive is oriented with the tab at the right front.
  7. Slide the DVD drive into the chassis.
  8. Press on the right side of the DVD drive to firmly seat it into the slot.
  9. Push the tab in under the DVD drive.

3. Reinstall slot 5 disk drive and front air filter

  1. Push the release button of the drive.  The release lever pops out.
  2. Align the drive with slot 5 in the disk cage.  The connector is at the rear of the drive and the release button is on the left.
  3. Press on the drive to slide the drive into the chassis until the release lever moves slightly inward.
  4. Press the release lever fully closed with a click, securing the drive into the chassis.
  5. Reinstall the air filter
    1. Set the bottom edge of the filter into the lip at the front of the chassis.  The left and right release levers are facing forward.
    2. Pivot the filter to vertical.  The release levers snap the filter into place.

4. Return the Server to operation.

  1. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
  2. Verify that the replacement DVD functions properly.
  3. Verify the disk in slot 5 is functioning properly.

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot up system and verify full functionality.
