Goal
What is the meaning of parameter - Parameters SRCHORDR
On one Eagle STP; OAM card is SRCHORDR = LOCAL,
but on other Eagle STP the SRCHORDR = SRVR
Solution
SRCHORDR stands for Host table search order.
Host names must be translated to IP addresses either locally (on the Eagle STP) or remotely by DNS servers.
If the option LOCAL is used:
Host Name - A more human readable name that identifies an IP address
Local Host Table - A table that stores host names and IP addresses
When provisioning a connection, host names are entered.
When communicating IP address must be used. The host names must be translated to IP addresses. The IP addresses are then used in the IP packet header.
If the option SERVER is used; then a domain name server is contacted for the hostname to IP conversion.
A Domain Name Service (DNS) server is a central databases of names and IP addresses.
Before the Source Eagle STP can send to hostname, the name must be translated to an IP address.
Source sends a query to the DNS server asking, “What is the IP address of hostname”
The DNS server looks up the Domain Name in its DNS table and finds the IP address for hostname
The DNS server returns the IP address.
The Sending Host now has the IP address needed to identify the destination host.
The default option is set as SERVER but as Eagle STP keeps its own host table; so it is better to use LOCAL.
