Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

A Host is defined in the Oracle FS System Manager GUI with Initiators (HBAs) Associated to the Host, and there is a need to physically replace one of the Initiators with a new one because it was defective (or for some other reason).  This Document will help to Associate the new Initiator with the Host, and remove the Association for the Initiator that was physically removed.

This document was written based on SR 3-10763234931.

Solution

If the affected host has Flash Storage Path Manager (FSPM) installed and there is a working Ethernet connection from the host to the FS1 Pilot, then the Association of the new HBA to the host in the Oracle FS System Manager GUI should be done automatically.

Refer to the FSPM Installation Guides of the relevant operating system for further details.

If the host is not running FSPM, or the Oracle FS Path Manager Status for the host shows "Not Communicating" in the Oracle FS System Manager GUI (SAN tab -> Hosts on left side) then the association of the previous HBA will have to be manually removed and the newly installed HBA to the host will have to be manually created. Follow these steps:

  1.  After the Initiator (HBA) is replaced in the host, correct the switch zoning to reflect the new HBA WWN (if necessary).
  2.  In the Oracle FS System Manager GUI, click on the SAN tab, then click on Hosts under Storage on the left-hand side.
  3.  Right-click in the right-hand window and select Associate Hosts from the pop-up menu (or alternatively, select Associate Hosts from the Actions menu item).
  4.  In the Associate Hosts window that opens, select the Host that had the HBA replaced from the Host Name drop-down box. The HBAs that are currently associated to that host should appear in the Associations window.
  5.  Select (highlight) the HBA that was physically removed from the host by matching the HBA Alias or WWN and click the Remove button (below the Associations window).  **CAUTION:  Be sure to Remove the correct HBA!
  6.  In the Create Association box, click the radio button for "Select from discovered WWNs" and select (highlight) the WWN of the new HBA that was installed.  If the new HBA WWN does not appear in the list, then click the radio button for "Specify WWN" and enter the HBA WWN.
  7.  Click the Add> button, then click OK.
  8.  The newly replaced HBA is now associated to the host, and the old HBA's Association is removed.
