Goal

How to narrow down issue causer for Sun Fire X4170M2 keeps resetting itself under Oracle Virtual Machine Server version 2.2.2 (Linux).

Solution

Check with ILOM snapshot for potential hardware issue.In case there no hardware issue found on ILOM snapshot

enable serial console support and collect crash dump data to check for potential software issue.

For example after re-imaged hypervisor from version 2.2.2 with OVM 3.2.9 on a Sun Fire X4170M2 system has stabilized the platform with a newer kernel 2.6.39-400.215.11.el5uek,

and issue with unscheduled rebooting was resolved.
