Goal

DSP module replacement procedure.

Solution

Up to twenty-four transcoder DSP modules that provide transcoding functionality to the Acme Packet 6300 are installed on the TCM in slots 0 through 23. There are slots for installing the transcoder DSP modules in three locations on the PCB (three groups of eight slots). Transcoder DSP modules must be installed consecutively in numerical order, starting with slot 0. Slot numbering starts at the lower left slot with 0-7, slots 8-15 in the group to the directly to the right, then slots 16-23 directly above the right group.

The following procedure describes how to remove the transcoder DSP module from the TCM.

Prerequisites:
--Provide an ESD-safe location to place the transcoder DSP module and TCM.
--Wear an ESD wrist strap or take similar equivalent actions to prevent static damage to the TCM or other ESD-sensitive    components.
--Note the location of the transcoder DSP module connector on the TCM.

To remove the transcoder DSP module:
1.Remove the TCM as directed in the Acme Packet 6300 Service Manual.
2.Place the TCM in an ESD-safe location.
3.To remove the transcoder DSP module , use a fingertip to release the catch holding either end of the module.
4.Once the fastener is detached from one side of the transcoder DSP module, slightly lift up on that side of the module  and then disengage the other fastener on the other side of the transcoder DSP module and lift up on that side of the module.
5.When both sides are free of the fasteners, hold the center of the module between your finger and thumb and slowly remove the module. Be careful to keep the module level while removing it and guide it smoothly through the guide slots on either side.
6.Place the transcoder DSP module on an ESD-safe anti-static surface.

Installing the Transcoder DSP Module:

1.Grasp the transcoder DSP module between your thumb and index finger of each hand and line up both sides of the module with the slot guides attached to the TCM.

2.Guide the module evenly into the slot guides located on each side as you lower the component into the connector. Press evenly across the top of the connector to fully seat the transcoder DSP module on the TCM

How to locate the problematic DSP module:

Overview of the 6300:
 6300 Slot 0: Network/media interface card
 6300 Slot 1: Transcoding card 1, DSPs 0...47, module-slots 0..23
 6300 Slot 2: Transcoding card 2, DSPs 48...95, module-slots 0..23

Each Transcoding card holds 48 DSPs

Each module holds 2 DSPs each and 24 modules per card.

On TCU0

Module-Slot 0: DSP 0 and DSP 1

Module-Slot 1: DSP 2 and DSP 3

Module-Slot 2: DSP 4 and DSP 5

Module-Slot 3: DSP 6 and DSP 7

Module-Slot 4: DSP 8 and DSP 9

Module-Slot 5: DSP 10 and DSP 11

Module-Slot 6: DSP 12 and DSP 13

Module-Slot 7: DSP 14 and DSP 15

And so on ………………..

Module-Slot 23:DSP 46 and DSP 47

So the starting point for TCU1 is

Module-Slot 0: DSP 48 and DSP 49

Module-Slot 1: DSP 50 and DSP 51

Module-Slot 2: DSP 52 and DSP 53

Module-Slot 3: DSP 54 and DSP 55

Module-Slot 4: DSP 56 and DSP 57

Module-Slot 5: DSP 58 and DSP 59

Module-Slot 6: DSP 60 and DSP 61

Module-Slot 7: DSP 62 and DSP 63

The NIU(slot 0) sits at the bottom. In the middle is TCU0(slot 1) and on top is TCU1(slot 2).

For eg:  DSP Core Halt on Device #86!

On Transcoding card 2, locate the module with DSP #86
   Module-slot 19 has DSP #86
