Applies to:
Acme Packet 3820 - Version S-Cz7.2.5 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
Upgrading 3820 HA system from version 6.4 to version 7.x code.
Symptoms:
We have used the information from the release notes and configuration guides. In summary, copy the .boot file to /boot/bootloader and update the new image file as usual. We tried upgrading to 7.2 GA and 7.3 but it always fails. The system hangs as shown in the attachment.
Solution
Please follow below steps while upgrading from 6.x code to 7.x code.
The problem here is that we also need to upgrade the firmware of the PHY. NIU's with QoS FPGA require a minimum firmware version to run 7.x code.
The patchset for updating the FPGA is on MOS, patch name/number is 19196583: Acme Packet 4500/3820 V220 FPGA Upgrade
The patchset should include document on how to upgrade, which is done using a DIAGs image
Diag image can be found here: Patch 20034548: Acme Packet 3800 Diags 1.25 image, and a how to use document here: How to Execute Diagnostics on an NN4500 or NN3800 (Doc ID 1589482.1)
Please upgrade the firmware and check if you can load the image after the upgrade.
Also you need to install the stage 3 boot loader.
AP3820 and AP4500 Bootloaders:
The AP 3820 and AP 4500 require Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 bootloaders.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 bootloaders should be dated no earlier than July 3, 2013 (MOS patch # 18185632) . Use the show version boot command to view current bootloader version on your system.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 bootloader updates are available on My Oracle Support listed under the respective hardware.
The Stage 3 bootloader accompanies the OCSBC image file, as distributed. It should be installed according to the instructions found in the Maintenance and Troubleshooting Guide.
Please note after software upgradation you will receive below error:
BIOS Info
---------------
BIOS Date: <BAD INDEX>
BIOS Version: 03/22/07
Above error is just a display error and it would not affect any system functionality.
Engineering is already working on it to have a permanent fix.
