Goal

Update the BIOS at a Sun Ultra Workstation which not having an ILOM

Sun Ultra 20 M2, Sun Ultra 20, Sun Ultra 24, Sun Ultra 27, Sun Ultra 40 M2, Sun Ultra 40

Solution

 

To update the Sun Ultra Workstations download the latest Tools and Driver Patch.

Discover how to use My Oracle Support - Patches and Updates (Doc ID 1543731.1)

 

How to download the latest Tools & Driver Patch:

a. Log in to the My Oracle Support (MOS) website at the following location:

https://support.oracle.com/

b. Open the Patches & Updates tab (near the top of the window).

c. In the Patch Search pane, with the Search tab open, click Product or Family(Advanced).

d. In the Product field, type e.g. "Sun Ultra 20"

e. In the Release field drop-down, select Ultra 20 SW 1.8.

f. Close the Release drop-down window and click the Search button.

g. download the Patch

 

1. Unzip them (e.g. p10360782_180_Generic.zip) it is a Tools and Drivers DVD ISO image, in the directory All_Supported_Platforms/supplement_0604_2008.iso

2. Burn the image to a DVD.

3. Insert the DVD into the DVD drive and reboot the workstation.

4. The workstation boots from the DVD and a menu appears.

5. Choose the option Flash System BIOS.

6. Respond to the prompts, and then wait until the BIOS update is complete.

7. When the workstation reboots, remove the Tools and Drivers DVD from the DVD drive.
