Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Goal

This document is intended to assist in troubleshooting missing onboard network interfaces in Sun Fire V440 server & Sun Netra 440

/pci@1c,600000/network@2 -> ce0
/pci@1f,700000/network@1  -> ce1

SYMPTOMS : Onboard interface 'ce1' or 'ce0' is not accessible.
'dladm show-dev ' will show only one interface missing,in our case 'ce1' is missing.

# dladm show-dev
ce0 link: unknown speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full

 Troubleshooting Steps :

 Check the physical path to the interface in question .

$ cat path_to_inst |grep network // To check the 'On board' interface)
"/pci@1c,600000/network@2" 0 "ce"------------->>>'ce0'
"/pci@1f,700000/network@1" 1 "ce"------------->>>'ce1'

 Refer the following documents for more information on understanding if the interface is onboard or external PCI slot .

 SPARC Platforms: Matrix of Recognized Device Paths (Doc ID 1005907.1).

'dladm' will show one interface missing,in our case 'ce1' is missing.

# dladm show-dev
ce0 link: unknown speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full

The '/var/adm/messages'and 'loghistory' reports network path failed warning messages.

Solution

Interface 'ce1' seems to have failed - is not seen by the operating system any more.

The corresponding hardware device is onboard network interface which is a  part of the motherboard .

Hence we need go ahead with replacement of the 'motherboard' of Sun Fire V440/Sun Netra 440.
