Goal

To describe how to recover a system that will not boot to the Appliance OS (AKD) and stops at GRUB command prompt.

 

Solution

The customer should open a Service Request for this issue in the first instance.

 

Oracle TSC NAS Support will need to verify that attempting to boot from the other (mirrored) boot disk also shows the same behaviour.


Once it has been ascertained that either boot disk will stop at the GRUB prompt, the TSC Engineer will attempt to determine if there is an OS partition to boot from (using the GRUB menu):

        grub>  findroot (system,0,a)

If this returns the error

        Error 15: File not found

then - either, this specific boot disk does not contain a bootable partition - or,  the OS root partition is corrupted or missing, it this case the system will need re-installation by an Oracle Field Service Engineer.
