Goal

This document provides details about how to check serial numbers associated with nodes, IB switches and PDU on Oracle Big Data Appliance.

Solution

1) To find serial number of the nodes on the BDA cluster
a) Use bdaid command to print out the Serial number of the node/server

For Ex:-

# bdaid
Server Hostname           : <ServerName>
Rack Serial Number        : AK....
Server Serial Number      : 1349NM503P
Appliance Name            :  <RackName>

2) To find serial number of the Infiniband switches

Doc ID 1299791.1 How to Determine the Serial Number of a Datacenter InfiniBand Switch 36 or QDR InfiniBand Gateway InfiniBand Switch

As per HW engineer  The version command shows the serial# of the SP board (i.e. only the SP) not the actual IB switch itself.  IB switch serial#s are never in this format.

For Ex:-

# ssh <Switch Name/IP>
root@<Switch Name/IP>'s password:
...............
You are now logged in to the root shell.
It is recommended to use ILOM shell instead of root shell.
All usage should be restricted to documented commands and documented
config files.
To view the list of documented commands, use "help" at linux prompt.
# version
SUN DCS gw version: 2.1.3-4
Build time: Aug 28 2013 18:16:06
FPGA version: 0x34
SP board info:
Manufacturing Date: 2014.05.19
Serial Number: "NCDF30943"
Hardware Revision: 0x0107
Firmware Revision: 0x0000
BIOS version: SUN0R100
BIOS date: ...........

3) To find serial number of the PDU's

a) Using ILOM Web UI
i) Log into ILOM Web UI of one of the BDA nodes
ii) Navigate to System Information --->  Power
iii) Click on Details of the needed 'Power Supply 0' or 'Power Supply 1'

b) Using ILOM Client
i) ssh into ILOM of one of the BDA nodes ILOM
ii) Execute below command for the needed 'Power Supply 0' or 'Power Supply 1'

-> show /System/Power/Power_Supplies/Power_Supply_0
OR
-> show /System/Power/Power_Supplies/Power_Supply_1
