Goal
I am trying to configure SNMP traps on Cisco Switch.
When I try to enable traps I get the following error:
atl1sw-adm0.ods#conf t
atl1sw-adm0.ods(config)#snmp-server community public
atl1sw-adm0.ods(config)#snmp-server host 172.16.186.227 public
atl1sw-adm0.ods(config)#snmp-server enable traps
% Cannot enable both sham-link state-change interface traps.
% New sham link interface trap not enabled.
Please advice.
Solution
Researching this I find the following:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10583281/snmp
The error does not mean that traps have not been enabled, but says traps about ospf sham-link changes will not be sent.
In order to send them you will need the full commands
snmp-server enable traps ospf cisco-specific errors config-error
snmp-server enable traps ospf cisco-specific errors shamlink
Have a look here
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/iproute/configuration/guide/ospf_sham_mib_ps6350_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html
SNMP traps are still enabled, OSPF Sham-Link traps are not.
For the purpose of platinum implementation, there is a need for sham-link.
