Goal
Following UIM is displayed for a newly created low speed SS7 link:
5620.0208 ** SLK 4312,A1 linkname REPT-LKF: APF - lvl-2 T2 expired
Solution
The UIM 0208 means far end is not replying to link allignment messages.
In the alignment procedure we come across 2 important timers. They are T2 and T3 timers. 4 states are entered during alignment procedure, they are-
State 00: Idle
State 01: Not aligned
State 02: aligned
State 03: proving
Timer T2 comes into picture in state 01 (Not aligned) and Timer T3 comes into picture in state 02 (aligned). If any one of these two timers expires then the link goes to state 00 (idle) and the alignment procedure will restart from beginning. When MTP2 receives an order to begin initial alignment, the SP changes the status of the transmitted LSSUs to indication SIO (out of alignment) and starts the timer T2. If T2 expires, the status of the transmitted LSSUs reverts to SIOS. Aligned During T2 SIO, if SIN (normal alignment) or SIE (emergency alignment) is received from the remote SP, T2 is stopped, and the transmission of SIO ceases. The SP then transmits SIN or SIE, depending on whether normal or emergency alignment has been selected and timer T3 is started. The link is then aligned, indicating that it can detect flags and signal units without error.
We have two UAM’s to indicate if these timers expire, they are,
0207 - REPT-LKF: APF - lvl-2 T3 expired
0208 - REPT-LKF: APF - lvl-2 T2 expired
Before the link is put to in-service it has to pass the proving period, if it fails, we will have the below UAM,
0209 - REPT-LKF: APF - failed proving period
Other than the above UAM’s I believe we do not have any other UIM related to this case and, I believe it is not required.
If a link is not aligned, we will get the 0236 - REPT-LKF: not aligned message in rept stat-trbl output.
Then we need to check the status of the link by rept-stat-slk command.
eg:
rept-stat-slk:loc=1215:link=a6
rept-stat-slk:loc=1215:link=a6:l2stats=both
This will give an idea on why the link is not aligning.
Suggest following steps:
1. Block and unblock the link from far end
2. Remove the link and recreate the link at far end
If the issue remains; use following command to retrieve all the link related alarms:
RTRV-LOG:OUTGRP=LINK:SDATE=<Date of issue in format YYMMDD>:STIME=<start time of incident based on STP time in the following format HHMMSS>:ETIME=<end time of incident based on STP time in the following format HHMMSS>:SLOG=STB"
