In this Document
Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Applies to:Oracle FS1-2 Cloud System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Information in this document applies to any platform. GoalHow to Replace an Energy Storage Module (ESM) in an Oracle FS1-2 Controller SolutionNOTE: Controllers with ILOM versions prior to 3.2.9.21 r117708 require that it to be completely powered off for the replacement of the ESM. To do this, both power cords MUST be removed. See steps below to determine if this is needed. Controllers with this ILOM version or higher do not require that the power cords be removed, but do require that the Controller be offline. This ILOM version is part of the R6.2.13 software packages but is only installed during a disruptive upgrade.
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS What: An ESM in an FS1-2 Controller has failed and needs to be replaced. Where: There will be a System Alert that identifies the problem Controller. Since the Controller will not boot with a failed ESM, it is almost certain that the System Alert will say that there is a Controller failure. Why: An FS1-2 Controller ESM has failed. NOTE: Please check all the ESM part numbers for part number 7080891. These need to be replaced as part of pro-active FCO 354. See Document 2045728.1 FCO A0354-1: Proactive: High failure rate of Energy Storage Modules (ESMs) in FS1-2 Storage System Controllers for more details.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? The Controller with the ESM failure will have a warning status. The other Controller must have a normal status as this procedure requires a Controller failover. NOTE: Even though the Service Label for the FS1-2 Controller indicates that the ESM is hot swappable because it has an orange border - THE ESM IS NOT HOT SWAPPABLE.
NOTE: If proactively replacing an ESM where Solaris 10 or 11 hosts have LUNs on the FS1, please reference Document 1986424.1 Certain Solaris 11 SRUs and Solaris 10 Patches may Cause IO Error on Failover before attempting replacement.
NOTE: Please review Document 1942676.1 FS System: How to Disable Call Home to Prevent Automatic Service Request ASR Generation before proceeding with the procedure below. The steps contained therein are provided to allow an Administrator to de-activate a particular ASR enabled array while performing maintenance or troubleshooting. This will prevent any additional Service Requests from being created unnecessarily.
QRC for this procedure: To familiarize yourself with this procedure in general a video can also be found here. But it should not be viewed as a substitute for the instructions below. WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
Confirm that the replacement ESM was successful - the System Alert associated with it should be gone and the FS1-2 should be normal/green. From the Oracle Help Center: http://docs.oracle.com/en/storage/#fla select the Oracle Flash System Documentation Library for more information.
