Goal

SL500 - L1 Media ID Cleaning Label Usage on LTO Cleaning cartridge in Library.

Solution

The LTO universal cleaning cartridge should be labeled CLNUxxCU or CLNxxxCU.  However if they are labeled CLNUxxL1 or CLNxxxL1 they will function normally in an SL500 as firmware 1409 and above will do a virtual re-label of the cartridge.

See below, note the top cart re-labeled from CLN002L1  4c  1 to CLN002L1  43  U ie. CLN002CU the code in this SL500 is 1409.
SERVICE>> cartridge
Number of cartridges = 6
 0, 1, 1, 1      READABLE      CLN002L1  43  U    <----------------------- Here is the example.
 0, 1, 1, 2      READABLE      SCN199L2  4c  2
 0, 1, 1, 3      READABLE      STK678L3  4c  3
 0, 1, 1, 4      READABLE      STK690L3  4c  3
 0, 1, 1, 5      READABLE      STK677L3  4c  3
 0, 1, 1, 6      READABLE      A00015L3  4c  3

Do not use the L1 media ID cleaning label in the SL8500 or SL3000 with current code at this time. (25-Feb-2015).
