Goal

BEFORE CONTINUING with the order for a replacement of a ZFS Logzilla with a Higher Capacity SSD, please ENSURE you have READ and UNDERSTAND the information contained in this document.

Failure to ADHERE to this document WILL result in delays to Customer problem resolution.

IMPORTANT NOTEOlder model (18GB & 73GB) Logzilla SSDs are NO LONGER AVAILABLE, a Logzilla with a Higher Capacity (200GB) will be provided to replace a lower capacity device.

However, the higher capacity Logzilla may require an upgrade of the AK Firmware version for the ZFS Storage Appliance to support the new device.

Updating your software to the recommended version code will help to expedite part replacements.

Please see MOS Document ID 2021771.1 for the latest ZFS Storage Appliance Software Requirements and update process.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you are unable to upgrade the AK Firmware version to support the 200GB Logzilla, the replacement parts request (for a lower capacity device) will go on backorder with NO KNOWN TIME of fulfillment.

IMPORTANT UPDATE (October 2017):  The 200GB SSD (HUSMM1640ASS200 - Oracle Part Numbers 7094120, 7094126 & 7309938) has very LIMITED AVAILABILITY, a replacement 200GB SSD (Part Numbers 7350580, 7350578 & 7350582) will be provided.

To use Part Numbers 7350580, 7350578 & 7350582 as a replacement part, the AK revision has to be at the minimum AK Firmware reversion of 2013.1.7.0 (OS 8.7.0) for ZFS products.

See MOS Document ID 2309439.1 - Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: Support Strategy for Replacing a 200GB SSD (October 2017)

Summary

The 200GB (7350580, 7350578 & 7350582) SSD requires a minimum AK firmware version of 2013.1.7.0 (OS 8.7.0) for ZFS-SA.

For Exalogic systems, the 200GB (7350580, 7350578 & 7350582) SSD in the ZFS array requires a minimum is 2.0.6.3.170718, which is Jul 2017 PSU. This incorporates 2013.1.7.0 AK Firmware.

The 200GB (7309938) SSD requires a minimum AK Firmware version of 2011.1.9.3 or 2013.1.4.1 for ZFS-SA.

For Exalogic systems, the 200GB (7309938) SSD in the ZFS array requires a minimum is 2.0.6.2.4, which is Jan 2016 PSU. This incorporates 2013.1.4.9 AK Firmware.

The 73GB (7048983) Gen 4 SSD, requires a minimum AK firmware version of 2011.1.4.0 for ZFS-SA.

Installing the 73 GB Gen 4 SSD, or 200 GB SSD, with lower than minimum version of AK code will prevent the ZFS Appliance from recognizing the SSD as a write cache device and will not place the SSD online.

Solution

To use the 200GB (7350580, 7350578 & 7350582) SSD as a replacement part, the AK revision needs to be at AK 2013.1.7.0 (OS 8.7.0) (or above).

For Exalogic systems, the 200GB (7350580, 7350578 & 7350582) SSD in the ZFS array requires a minimum is 2.0.6.3.170718, which is Jul 2017 PSU.

To use the 200GB (7309938) SSD as a replacement part, the AK revision needs to be at AK 2011.1.9.3 (or above) or AK 2013.1.4.1 (or above).

For Exalogic systems, the 200GB (7309938) SSD in the ZFS array requires a minimum is 2.0.6.2.4, which is Jan 2016 PSU.

Please follow the AK Administration Guide for the correct upgrade process. Documents are provided below as references to assist with the upgrade process. For Exalogic software updates please refer to Exalogic documentation.

For all new ZFS SRs where customers require replacement Logzila SSDs, and are above the minimum AK versions, we should request the 200GB SSD part numbers as a replacement to minimize dependencies for older versions.
